Toddler Duk Skill Level  
Overview
The Toddler skill level is where the Parent learns to take a backward step and allow the toddler to experience their balance in the water. A variety of activities are designed to encourage the child to let go. The focus at this level is to motivate the child to become a little independent in the water.

Water Awareness:
  • Comfortable being in the water
  • Follows songs and does actions
  • Comes easily to instructor
  • Shows signs of independence (kicks, tries to let go of parent)
Life skill Preparation:
  • Enters and exits pool safely
  • Uses ladder on entry and exit, aided / unaided
  • Comfortable with getting face wet
  • Blows bubbles
  • Comfortable on back (ears in water), assisted
  • Holds breath for ready set go (underwater)
  • Jumps into pool with assistance, sitting / sanding
  • Makes splashy hands
Locomotion Skills:
  • Independently kicks with / without kickboard
  • Uses 2 kickboards with kicks, independently for 15 feet
  • Kickboard skills on stomach supported for 15 feet
  • Kickboard skills on back supported / unsupported for 15 feet
  • able to float on back for 10 seconds
  • Opens eyes underwater
  • From prone position turns to float
  • From back position turns to swim
  • Uses arms to get across pool
  • Uses kicks to get across pool
Leaves pool happy and relaxed!
